Code of Conduct

Ocean Revealed exists to spark curiosity and care for the ocean. This space works best when everyone feels welcome to learn, share, and ask questions. By joining as a member, commenting, or contributing, you agree to keep it that way.

We're here to:

  • Explore the ocean and share what we discover

  • Learn from one another, wherever we're starting from

  • Build a community that's kind, curious, and open

 

Please do:

  • Be respectful, even when you disagree

  • Keep comments on topic and add something useful

  • Credit sources and others' work

  • Ask questions — no question is too basic here

  • Report anything that feels off (see below)

 

Please don't:

  • Harass, bully, threaten, or single anyone out

  • Post hateful, discriminatory, or violent content

  • Spam, scam, or flood threads with self-promotion

  • Share misinformation, especially about ocean science or conservation

  • Post anything illegal, or anyone's private details, without consent

A note on disagreement: Healthy debate is welcome — it's how we learn. Challenge ideas, not people. Keep it curious, not combative.

 

For our contributors

If you write blogs or longer pieces for Ocean Revealed, a little more is asked of you — your words carry our name:

  • Write your own work. No plagiarism, no passing off others' writing or images as your own.

  • Get the facts right. Back up ocean science and conservation claims with credible sources, and link them where you can.

  • Be open about connections. If you're writing about a brand, product, or organisation you're tied to — including our sponsors — say so clearly.

  • Mind your images. Only use photos and visuals you have the right to share, with credit where it's due.

  • Your work stays yours. By posting, you keep ownership of what you write — you're simply giving us permission to publish and share it on Ocean Revealed, with credit to you.

  • Expect a light edit. We may tidy, fact-check, or hold a piece before it goes live. We'll always talk to you first about anything substantial.

 

A note on age

Ocean Revealed is for everyone — there's nothing here that isn't family-friendly. If you're under 13, we just suggest that a parent or guardian gives the okay before you sign up and join in.

 

If something's wrong

Spotted a comment, post, or member breaking these guidelines? Let us know at info@oceanrevealed.com. We review every report.

Depending on what's happened, we may:

  • Edit or remove the content

  • Have a quiet word with the member

  • Pause or suspend an account

  • Remove someone permanently in serious cases

If we act on your account and you think we've got it wrong, you're welcome to reply and explain — we'll take a proper look.

 

Privacy and terms

This code of conduct sits alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Together, they cover how to behave here, what we do with your data, and the legal basics. Please have a read of all three here: Legal & Policies.
